Rupees are the primary currency throughout Hyrule, consisting of a variety of differently colored cut gemstones of varying values. They are the in-game currency and are utilised in everything from taxes to military wages, upkeep, and recruitment, to constructing buildings. Rupees can also be recovered in caches (in the form of iconic Legend of Zelda treasure chests) of various amounts from Ruins. These caches are a one-time bonus, instantly adding that amount to a faction's treasury, but multiple caches can be recovered from the same Ruin.
